SUMMARY:Music Box Movie Night - Other People’s Children
DESCRIPTION:When dedicated high school teacher Rachel (Virginie Efira) falls in love with Ali (Roschdy Zem)\, it’s not long before she also falls for his 4-year-old daughter Leila. The adolescent giddiness of Rachel and Ali’s late-night rendezvous and secret sleepovers evolves into the familiar warmth of family picnics and after-school pickups. Although she feels like a mother\, Rachel is not allowed to forget that Lelia is another woman’s daughter. She begins to long for a child of her own\, but as a forty-something woman\, she is abundantly aware that she has limited time to begin a family. Rachel must decide whether to embrace the inherent entanglements of her current situation\, including the looming presence of Ali’s ex-wife Alice (Chiara Mastroanni) or strike out again on her own. Other People’s Children becomes a soulful\, sexy\, and resolutely grown-up story of the elusive quest for agency and belonging. \nTrailer: Other People’s Children – International Films – Independent Films | Music Box Films \n*Reservations Required: Book Here!

SUMMARY:Music Box Movie Night - Ida
DESCRIPTION:From acclaimed director Pawel Pawlikowski (Last Resort\, My Summer of Love) comes Ida\, a moving and intimate drama about a young novitiate nun in 1960s Poland who\, on the verge of taking her vows\, makes a shocking discovery about her past. 18-year old Anna (stunning newcomer Agata Trzebuchowska)\, a sheltered orphan raised in a convent\, is preparing to become a nun when the Mother Superior insists she first visit her sole living relative. Naïve\, innocent Anna soon finds herself in the presence of her aunt Wanda (Agata Kulesza)\, a worldly and cynical Communist Party insider\, who shocks her with the declaration that her real name is Ida and her Jewish parents were murdered during the Nazi occupation. This revelation triggers a heart-wrenching journey into the countryside\, to the family house and into the secrets of the repressed past\, evoking the haunting legacy of the Holocaust and the realities of postwar Communism. In this beautifully directed film\, Pawlikowski returns to his native Poland for the first time in his career to confront some of the more contentious issues in the history of his birthplace. Powerfully written and eloquently shot\, Ida a masterly evocation of a time\, a dilemma\, and a defining historical moment; Ida is also personal\, intimate\, and human. The weight of history is everywhere\, but the scale falls within the scope of a young woman learning about the secrets of her own past. This intersection of the personal with momentous historic events makes for what is surely one of the most powerful and affecting films of the year. \nTrailer: Ida – International Films – Independent Films | Music Box Films \n*Reservations Required: Book Here!

SUMMARY:MUSIC BOX FILMS TASTING ROOM MOVIE NIGHTS - Le Week-End
DESCRIPTION:Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (IRIS\, TOPSY-TURVY\, ANOTHER YEAR) and Lindsay Duncan (ABOUT TIME\, ALICE IN WONDERLAND\, MANSFIELD PARK) give exquisite performances as Nick and Meg\, a long-married British couple revisiting Paris for the first time since their honeymoon in an attempt to rekindle their relationship. During a two-day escapade\, diffident\, wistful Nick and demanding\, take-charge Meg careen from harmony to disharmony to resignation and back again as they take stock of half a lifetime of deep tenderness — and even deeper regret. A surprise invitation from Nick’s old friend Morgan (Jeff Goldblum)\, an amusingly eccentric American academic with a fancy Parisian address\, soon leads them to an unexpectedly hopeful vision of what their love and marriage might still become. This magically buoyant\, bittersweet romantic comedy\, starring two of Britain’s national treasures\, follows VENUS\, THE MOTHER and THE BUDDHA OF SUBURBIA as a notable salute to the collaborative filmmaking journey of screenwriter Hanif Kureishi and director Roger Michell. \n*RESERVATIONS REQUIRED – LINK TO SAVE YOUR SPOT: Movie Night Tickets \nLINK TO TRAILER: Le Week-End – International Films – Independent Films | Music Box Films

SUMMARY:Music Box Films Tasting Room Movie Nights – Eephus
DESCRIPTION:Two recreational baseball teams\, the River Dogs and Adler’s Paint\, have been meeting on their New England field on Sunday afternoons for longer than anyone can remember. These middle-aged sportsmen can’t run as fast as they used to or connect as reliably with a pitch\, but their vigorous appetite for socializing\, squabbling\, and busting chops remains undiminished. After the know-nothing county board opts to raze the baseball diamond to make way for a school\, the teams meet for one final game at their beloved Soldier’s Field\, with girlfriends\, kids\, and local hooligans as intermittent spectators. As day turns to night and innings bleed together\, the players face the uncertainty of a new era. Lovingly laid in a vanished Massachusetts of the mid-1990s\, Carson Lund’s poignant feature debut plays like a lazy afternoon\, perfectly attuned to the rhythms of America’s eternal pastime. Named for a rarely-deployed curveball\, Eephus is both a ribald comedy for the baseball connoisseur and a movie for anyone who’s ever lamented their community slipping away. \nTrailer: Eephus – International Films – Independent Films | Music Box Films

SUMMARY:Music Box Films Tasting Room Movie Nights – Secret Mall Apartment
DESCRIPTION:In 2003\, eight Rhode Island artists created a secret apartment inside the busy Providence Place Mall and lived there for four years\, filming everything along the way. They snuck in furniture\, tapped into the mall’s electricity\, and even constructed a wall\, smuggling in more than two tons of cinderblock. \nFar more than just a wild prank\, the secret apartment became a deeply meaningful place for its inhabitants. It was a personal expression of defiance against local gentrification\, a boundary-pushing work of public/private art\, a clubhouse in which large-scale charitable art projects were planned\, and\, finally\, a 750 square-foot “F you” to The Man. \nFeaturing never-before-seen footage of the space and revealing the identities of all the participants for the first time\, SECRET MALL APARTMENT is more than just a bonkers true story. Director Jeremy Workman\, whose “Lily Topples The World” won the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW 2021\, delivers a poignant exploration of a group of artists who discovered their purpose within the most commercial and improbable places. \nTrailer: Secret Mall Apartment
