SUMMARY:Music Box Films x Dablon Movie Nights: Sherman's March
DESCRIPTION:Join us fireside in The Tasting Room for a movie night with popcorn & wine! \nSherman’s March: Armed with a 16mm camera and a grant to make a documentary about the lingering aftermath of William Tecumseh Sherman’s 1864 march to the sea\, Ross McElwee gets sidetracked. After his girlfriend breaks up with him\, Ross shifts his attention from the historical to the personal\, to the battlefield of modern love\, and embarks on a sociological chronicle that documents the courting rites and rituals of the New South. A generous and humanistic portrait of several remarkable women that Ross meets along the way\, Sherman’s March sketches its characters with novelistic sensitivity: Pat\, an aspiring actress with a yen for Burt Reynolds; Claudia\, a roller-skating interior designer; Jackie\, the activist whose anti-nuclear advocacy dovetails with Ross’s deepest fears; and above all\, Charleen Swansea\, Ross’s mentor and a one-woman Greek chorus of unsolicited romantic counsel. A landmark of first-person filmmaking that presaged everything from Michael Moore to reality TV\, Sherman’s March is now available in a new 4K restoration. \nTrailer: Sherman’s March

DESCRIPTION:Join us fireside in The Tasting Room for a movie night with popcorn & wine! \nFremont: Each morning Donya (Anaita Wali Zada) leaves her tight-knit community of Afghan immigrants in Fremont\, California. She crosses the Bay to work at a family-run fortune cookie factory in San Francisco. Donya drifts through her routine\, struggling to connect with the culture and people of her new\, unfamiliar surroundings while processing complicated feelings about her past as a translator for the U.S. government in Afghanistan. Unable to sleep\, she finagles her way into a regular slot with a therapist (Gregg Turkington) who grasps for prospective role models. When an unexpected promotion at work thrusts Donya into the position to write her own story\, she communicates her loneliness and longing through a concise medium: the fortunes inside each cookie. Donya’s koans travel\, making a humble social impact and expanding her world far beyond Fremont and her turbulent past\, including an encounter with a quiet auto mechanic (Jeremy Allen White) who could stand to see his own world expanded. SUMMARY:Music Box Films x Dablon Movie Nights: OSS 117 Cairo\, Nest of Spies
DESCRIPTION:Join us fireside in The Tasting Room for a movie night with popcorn & wine! \nOSS 117 Cairo\, Nest of Spies: A box-office sensation in France\, comic star Jean Dujardin stars as secret agent Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath\, a.k.a. OSS 117 who in the tradition of Maxwell Smart and Inspector Clouseau somehow succeeds in spite of his ineptitude. After a fellow agent and close friend is murdered\, Hubert is ordered to take his place at the head of a poultry firm in Cairo. This is to be his cover while he investigates Jack’s death\, monitors the Suez Canal\, checks up on the Brits and Soviets\, burnishes France’s reputation\, quells a fundamentalist rebellion and brokers peace in the Middle East. A blithe and witty send-up not only of spy films of that era and the suave secret agent figure but also neo-colonialism\, ethnocentrism and the very idea of Western covert action in the Middle East. \nTrailer: OSS 117 Cairo\, Nest of Spies

SUMMARY:Music Box Films x Dablon Movie Nights: Remake
DESCRIPTION:Join us fireside in The Tasting Room for a movie night with popcorn & wine! \nRemake: Filmmaker Ross McElwee has spent forty years recording himself and his family\, creating documentaries that chronicle the shifting contours of American society through the lens of personal history. His son Adrian grew up inside those films and eventually began experimenting with the camera himself. When a Hollywood producer acquires the rights to adapt McElwee’s 1986 breakthrough Sherman’s March into a work of fiction\, twenty-year-old Adrian sees a chance for his father to finally reach a wider audience. As the adaptation stalls\, Adrian gets swept into a deepening drug addiction and dies from a fentanyl overdose\, leaving behind hours of personal video footage. Retracing Adrian’s final years\, McElwee reckons with what his camera captured and what remained hauntingly out of frame. As he reflects on a lifetime behind the camera\, Ross’s own effort to remix and remake the movie that Adrian never got to finish takes on new significance. An ever-expanding hall of mirrors built from decades of home movies\, Remake is both McElwee’s attempt to hold onto his son\, and to let him go. \nTrailer: Remake

SUMMARY:Music Box Films x Dablon Movie Nights: Bettie Page Reveals All
DESCRIPTION:Join us fireside in The Tasting Room for a movie night with popcorn & wine! \nBettie Page Reveals All: Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Mark Mori’s Bettie Page Reveals All is an intimate look at one of the world’s most recognized sex symbols\, told in her own words for the first time. In Mori’s alluring documentary\, the real Bettie Page emerges from the veil of myth and rumor via audio interviews taped a decade prior to her death in 2008. With earthy\, razor-sharp wit\, Bettie tells her life story — from humble beginnings as one of six children in an impoverished southern family\, to high school salutatorian\, to scandalous 50s pin-up model\, to shocking retirement in 1957 at the peak of her modeling career. Sharing rare details about her short-lived first marriage and many torrid affairs\, this keen insider’s glimpse follows Bettie through decades of broken marriages\, born-again Christianity\, and bouts of mental illness\, before her ultimate return to the public eye in the early 90’s\, unaware of her cult status. Ranked by Forbes in 2012 as one of the top ten posthumous celebrity earners\, Bettie and her enduring legacy continue to flourish. With a stunning array of gorgeous photographs\, unusual archival material\, and playful movie footage\, Bettie Page Reveals All shows how Bettie’s unabashed sexual expression and provocative poses set the stage for the sexual revolution and ushered in a modern era in fashion. For stars like Katy Perry and Beyonce\, as well as new generations of adoring fans around the world\, Bettie remains an irresistible style icon and an empowering role model. \nTrailer: Bettie Page Reveals All

SUMMARY:Music Box Films x Dablon Movie Nights: Zodiac Killer Project
DESCRIPTION:Join us fireside in The Tasting Room for a movie night with popcorn & wine! \nZodiac Killer Project: Filmmaker Charlie Shackleton was hot on the trail of the next great American true crime documentary—a riveting account of a highway patrolman’s quixotic effort to identify and capture the infamous Zodiac Killer. Shackleton devised a plan\, began collecting interviews\, and shot “evocative B-roll” footage of ghostly California freeways and parking lots where the killer may have once lurked. And then the project fell apart\, leaving Shackleton with fragments of the unfinished film and time to ruminate on shortcuts and signifiers of the ubiquitous genre. Zodiac Killer Project emerges from the ash heap to probe and deconstruct the form with the incisive eye of a true crime connoisseur. A witty and beautifully assembled deep dive into our obsession with serial killers and the stories we tell about them\, Shackleton’s resuscitation of his abandoned film follows in the free-range footsteps of documentary philosophers Errol Morris\, Werner Herzog\, and Joshua Oppenheimer. \nTrailer: Zodiac Killer Project
